Texas Home Living Program

Texas home living program provides some selected essential services and support to people with special needs. It serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, whether they live in their own homes or at family homes. These services are provided equally to both children and adults with no age limit.

 

 

The only thing is that you have to meet the determination of intellectual disability criteria of Texas Home Living Program. According to state law, you must be diagnosed by a qualified and certified physician. The following are the determining factors for you to qualify for this program:

 

 

Must be living either in your own home or a family home
Must not be enrolled in another medical aid program
Must be able to live with minimum supervision when it comes to preventing dangerous behaviour
Must have mild to an extreme deficit in adaptive behaviour
Must not earn more than the specified income limit and
Your IQ must be either 75 or below

 

 

As an individual, you may not know how to determine the kind of services you need.

Howver, service coordinator working in your local authority can advise you accordingly. You need to plan your services so that you continue living in your home. All you need is to discuss your benefits with your service coordinator, your guardian or any family member or anyone you choose to help in planning. Your plan should indicate the kind of services you need from the Texas Home Living Program to meet your personal goals.

 

 

There are two ways in which you can get help from the Texas Home Living Program. One is the community living category and the professional and Technical support service category. Community Living Category includes the following services:

 

  • Day Habilitation
  • Financial Management
  • Community Support
  • Employment Assistance
  • Respite
  • Supported Employment

 

The professional and technical support services offered include nursing, adaptive aids, behaviour support, special therapies, and treatments. The best thing is that anyone enrolled in the program can control the services offered to them.
